((Dating and romantic subplots seems like a standard in comics, and that carries into super hero RPG's. Just before this write up, Chance shared his first kiss with Regina the American Promise, played by Ultradynamic. This was a much, much more traditional relationship than Siobhan and her loves. Equally fun to play.))
The man known as The Harrier King reaches down with his hand to help his son to his feet. "Didn't see that one coming, did you Chance?"
The young man shakes his head, rubbing his jaw while looking up and down the street. A number of garishly clad thugs litter the pavement. "I think we've blown this candy store, Dad."
The older man nods, feeling the unfamiliar weight of a cowl and goggles on his face. It's been a while since Kid Harrier and the Harrier King hit the streets; not so long that Chance's game should be off this much. Chance is the one usually teasing his "old man" about missteps. "I have another address to stake out. Are you up for another or time to call it a night?"
Chance presses down a corner of his mask, knocked free by a blow. "I think I'm good for another."
"OK. Call this one in and I'm get directions." The Harrier King watches as his son pulls out a communicator to contact the police. They hadn't spent much time together since Chance returned from Chicago a few nights ago. Kid Harrier closes the comm. "We're all set. They'll send a wagon. You ready?"
The Harrier King let's his rocket boots lift him a few inches from the ground. "Yes. Follow me."
Together, they take to the air. The older man waits for a few moments, then speaks.
"How was the trip home, Chance? See any of your friends?"
"It was alright, I guess. I spent most of my time with mom."
"Did you see Danielle?" The King asks, carefully watching the teenager's face.
"Yeah," A wrinkle of the lips. A furrowed brow. "It was… well. It wasn't the same."
That's it, The King mused, thinking fondly back to the intoxication of adolescent love, and the wicked hangover. "Did something happen, Chance?"
"Yes, well no. Well not with Danni. I mean, we saw each other, but it wasn't the same. It's only been a few months, ya know? We're way far apart. I guess…"
"Were you going to try and stay together?"
"Nah. We talked about it. Didn’t seem like a good idea." Chance stops, hanging in mid air. His father turns to hover with him. "Seeing her made it seem so real, dad. We were just, done."
"And you're feeling guilty?"
"huh?"
The Harrier King points at his own cheek. "You went back to Chicago thinking about someone else, didn't you? I noticed the lipstick stain on your face when you joined me tonight."
Chance bushes, looks down. "Maybe I should have waited a bit more? I mean, I like this girl. I didn't plan on it. I didn't think. I thought…"
"Chance, it's OK. You didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes things just don't work out. You can’t really control your feelings. Danni will always have a special place in your heart. I still think about my first love; the heartache, the joy, the excitement of it. You're going to like, to love, a lot of people in your life, Chance, each one of them is something unique and precious."
Chance nods. "I think this one could be pretty special, dad."
"Yeah?" says The Harrier King, turning to continue to the next stake out. "Tell me about her…"
