((Chance gets ready for a few more major life changes.))
"I liked this woman in particular," Chance handed Paz a folder. "She was up for a spot on one of those cooking contest shows. She turned it down when they asked her if she could dial up the drama." The restaurant manager made a note of the name. "Anti-drama is preferred, claro," she told him.
The dusky Latina took a sip from her demitasse before straitening the small pile of folders. "Are you sure about this, jefe?"
His blond head nodded. "I will still be around and stopping by in the mornings to study with the kids, bartending on occasion, making diners table side for special clients. This will free me from the day to day obligations to the place and get you the help you've needed for a while. And it will give me the time I need to finish my degree, build out the new place, and get ready."
Paz grinned, her teeth white against her dark skin. "I am so happy for you, jefe. Your new flat will have a vegetable garden. ¿No?" Chance nodded again as he sipped his coffee. "Mac is working with the architect to build a full greenhouse on the roof," he said. "Kori's will have plenty of fresh vegetables to choose from and the building is right next door."
"Espléndido."
"I'd like to meet with the candidates you decide to fly in. You and Chef Takeru have final say, but I would like the opportunity to get a feel for them, get reassurance that they buy into our vision."
"Claro, jefe. Your opinion will factor in most strongly."
"Thank you," he finished his coffee before standing and pulling another stack of folders from the table. "I'll let you get started. I have a whole different pile of applicants to review."
