((I was surprised at the amount of socializing in City of Heroes. People would gather together in game for meetings, to listen to their favorite Internet DJ, weddings, and dances. I wrote this bit in preparation for a 80's themed dance party put on by ASTS. Chance left this package for American Promise on the beach where they had their first real kiss.))
Chance resisted the urge to open the box again and check its content. He breathed out sharply through his nostrils. No. No, that would only screw up the dry ice. The box needed to stay cool, not cold, and cool for awhile.
This was silly. Who knew if she would even come out here to pick it up or that some other Rikti raid party wouldn't just crush the thing under an armored foot.
He looked around the beach, remembering the last time he was here. He smiled with the memory. This was a good plan. Tied up with a stakeout, he hadn't seen much of Regina in the last week. He enjoyed the time spent today thinking of her, cruising thrift and nostalgia stores, listening to music.
The music! What if she hates it? What if she reads too much into it? Not enough? Having parents that went to college in the 80's exposed him to a lot of tunes from that time. He tried to pick things that he liked from a few different genres. Ug. He could never ever get a mix CD perfect.
He leaned forward, reaching out his hands. Stopped. Rubbed his head. Stood straight. Activating his boots, he fished out his cell phone. Texting the coordinates as he slowly took to the air, he wrote, "I left some things to get you in the mood for the dance. You can find them on our beach. Missing you. See you soon. - Chance."
Wrapped in a single sheet of handmade washi paper, a long box rests on the sand of a deserted beach. A hand written card tucked into a satin ribbon reads, "Regina."
